Downtown Port Gibson closed due to downed power lines

PORT GIBSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Port Gibson police said the downtown area of the city has been closed due to downed power lines and utility poles.

Pictures showed a Ryder truck tangled in the power lines on Wednesday, November 6.

The following streets are closed as of Wednesday morning:

  • Market and Walnut
  • Flowers and Fair
  • Anthony and Market
  • Flowers and Olive
  • Market and Olive
  • Market and Orange
  • Market and Fair

Residents and visitors are advised to avoid the area and to seek alternative routes.

“The safety of our community is our top priority. We urge everyone to stay away from the downtown area until it is deemed safe. Our team is coordinating with local utilities to ensure the situation is handled swiftly and effectively,” said Port Gibson Police Chief Russell Dorsey.
