Man pleads guilty to fatal shooting on Natchez Trace Parkway

MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A man pled guilty on Thursday in connection to a homicide that occurred on the Natchez Trace Parkway six years ago.

According to court documents, Cristian Mitchel Mondragon Gonzales, 29, of Mexico, got into a fight with the victim following a party at a home on September 23, 2018.

Prosecutors said the victim left the home, and Mondragon Gonzales went after the victim. He convinced the victim to go for a ride, and they went to a location on the Natchez Trace Parkway. When they got out of the vehicle, prosecutors said Mondragon Gonzales shot the victim multiple times.

The victim was discovered the following morning by an person walking along the trail of the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Mondragon Gonzales pled guilty to second-degree murder and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. He is scheduled to be sentenced on February 12, 2025, and faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Natchez Trace Parkway police, and Ridgeland police investigated the case.
