JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A former contracted probation officer in Mississippi pled guilty to six counts of embezzlement.

State Auditor Shad White said LaCosta Lee worked for Court Programs, Inc. (CPI). He said Lee received court-ordered fines and fees from those on probation and then pocketed the money for her own personal use.

“Our dedicated team at the State Auditor’s office continues to work closely with prosecutors to get record results,” said White. “That’s how we’ve recovered more money in the last six years than any other six-year period in the history of the Auditor’s office.”

Lee was prosecuted in the 12th District Circuit Court. She was sentenced to 20 years, 17 suspended, three to serve, five years post release supervision, and has been ordered to pay $4,313.75 in restitution, $3,000 in fines, and $400 to the victims’ compensation fund.
