New resources help solve Jackson homicides: chief

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Jackson Police Department (JPD) worked quickly to solve the city’s two latest homicides.

Three arrests have been made in the last 24 hours, and a fourth arrest is pending. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said the high solvability rate of crimes in the capital city is because of a new mindset JPD has adopted in crime fighting.

“We’re going to focus on the witness statements. We’re going to focus on the physical evidence. We’re going to use our technology to help us. And that’s why we now have an 80% solvability rate. You’re not going to continue to keep running around this city killing people, hurting people, destroying families, and not being held accountable. We’re going to focus every resource that we have on a local, county, state and federal level to hold you accountable,” said Wade.

The police chief said the city has new resources and crime fighting methods in the works thanks to a federal program that deemed Jackson as a Public Safety Partnership City with the federal government.

“We’re training with tech support in Jackson. That’s going to have an impact because it has worked all across the country,” stated Wade.

Although JPD is solving crimes at a faster rate, the police chief still wants to see a changed mindset from the community and help from the court system by setting a high bond or denying bond for violent offenders once they’re arrested.
