RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A 16-year-old died after an ATV crash near Pelahatchie, authorities said.

The accident occurred near the 300 block of Old Highway 80 just before 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 23.

Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said multiple medical units responded to the scene, including AirCare. He said Roshea Rodriguez McCoy, Jr., was in cardiac arrest and suffered a head injury. Despite life-saving measures, the teen died.

According to Burnell, a preliminary investigation showed that the ATV suffered a tire failure, which resulted in McCoy being ejected from the ATV.
