JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) said they do not have enough substantial evidence to prove any allegations of unethical conduct by Jackson State University (JSU).
On Friday, November 8, the SWAC was made aware of allegations regarding the potential unauthorized usage of practice film. According to a report by ESPN, an allegation was made that JSU football players and coaches had access to game-week practice film of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (UAPB).
The allegation was made on October 31, two days before JSU played UAPB in Jackson. The Tigers defeated the Golden Lions 41-3.
After conducting a review, which included an IT analysis, statements and interviews, the SWAC determined they did not have enough substantial evidence. The conference concluded the investigation, but they reserved the right to review any additional information received on the matter.
“The Southwestern Athletic Conference upholds an extremely high standard of integrity with all aspects related to athletic competition and we will continue to take proactive steps to ensure fair competition within all sponsored sports,” officials said.
JSU clinched a spot in the SWAC Championship after defeating Alabama State 16-10. The championship game will be held at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson on December 7.
