JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade called on the residents of Jackson to help make the city a safer place. This comes after a violent Thanksgiving weekend.

Jackson police responded to four shootings and three homicides within five days.

“They know who committed these crimes. They know you, know why they did it. Please come forward and share that information with law enforcement. This is not just a police problem. This is a community problem. This is a City of Jackson problem,” said Wade.

The Jackson Police Department (JPD) has a 79% success rate solving homicide cases, according to officials. They’re actively working on open cases, but Wade believes it’s not enough. He made a call to action for everyone in the community.

“Let’s come off the sidelines, get on the playing field with me, because I can’t stop all this by myself. But I’m going to stay relentless and locked in with laser focus to make sure that we hold these individuals accountable. We’ve got to hold them accountable, because they’ll be out here committing these crimes continuously until we break the cycle and put them in jail where they deserve to be,” he said.

Wade said in 60% of the cases, the victim and the suspect know each other.
