JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Remediation work within Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson is still underway.
The event venue is set to reopen to the public in January 2025, according to Jackson leaders. The facility closed in August 2024 after mold was discovered.
In November, Angie Ladner, the former manager for Thalia Mara Hall, resigned. She said the building faces numerous problems with the escalators, bathrooms and elevators.
Despite the issues, Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba said the city is on the path to reopen Thalia Mara Hall soon.
“The encapsulation of the theater is 30% complete. The HVAC cleaning is 25% complete. The back encapsulation started on Monday. The lobby mitigation is 80% completed. The office area mitigation is 90% completed, and the theater mitigation is 20% completed. So, we are still on track,” Lumumba said.
Since the remediation project began, officials said progress has been made in the areas of air quality, structural cleaning and roofing inspections.
