VAN ZANDT COUNTY, Texas (WJTV) – A Mississippi man has been arrested in connection to the shooting death of a Texas police officer.

CBS News reported Terrell police officer Jacob Candanoza, 28, was conducting a traffic stop around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 8 near the intersection of Interstate 20 and Highway 34. During the stop, authorities said Candanoza was shot.

The officer was transported to a hospital before he died.

Authorities later arrested Darrian Cortez Johnson, 25, on Monday, December 9 after an hours-long search. Authorities said he was taken into custody at the Mill Creek Ranch Resort, which is located about 30 miles east of Terrell.

Johnson has been charged with capital murder of a peace officer or fireman.
