WAYNE COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A three-year-old died after a two-vehicle crash in Wayne County.

The crash occurred on Highway 45 around 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 12.

Officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) said a 2020 Western-Star Sanitation Truck was stationary on the north side of Highway 45 when it was hit by a 2012 Dodge Ram that was traveling north on the highway.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, 32-year-old Derrick K. Deese, of Waynesboro, was injured and transported to a local hospital. A three-year-old passenger of the Dodge Ram received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by MHP.
