JACKSON, Miss, (WJTV) – The Jackson Police Department (JPD) warned residents on Tuesday about an increase in auto burglaries throughout the city, particularly in South Jackson.
According to a JPD press release, thieves are traveling through neighborhoods. They walk up to vehicles parked on the street, in driveways, carports or garages, and then pull on the door handles. When thieves find unlocked cars, they burglarize them.
JPD reminded residents of the following to keep their cars and belongings safe:
- Unlocked cars are easy targets for thieves
- Valuables that are left in unlocked vehicles will be stolen
- Valuables that are left in plain view in locked or unlocked cars will likely be stolen
- Guns that are stolen from vehicles will likely be used to commit crimes
