NEW ORLEANS (WJTV) – Two Mississippians were killed during the terror attack in New Orleans.

“Please join Elee and me in praying for Mississippians Nikyra Dedeaux and Matthew Tenedorio who were tragically killed during the terrorist attack in New Orleans. Mississippi will never forget them,” said Gov. Tate Reeves (R-Miss.).

Zion Parsons, of Gulfport, had been celebrating New Year’s Eve on his first night on Bourbon Street when a vehicle appeared and plowed into his friend, Dedeaux, 18. He said Dedeaux had dreamed of becoming a nurse.

Tenedorio was “tragically shot and killed in the devastating terrorist attack in New Orleans,” a GoFundMe page verified to NewsNation reads.

“Matthew was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend whose laid-back spirit and infectious laughter brought joy to everyone around him,” the description reads.

Tenedorio was an audiovisual technician for the Caesars Superdome, located in New Orleans, according to the page.

An Ole Miss student was also critically injured during the attack.

“I was deeply saddened to learn that one of our own students was critically injured in the violent attack in downtown New Orleans and is receiving medical care,” said University of Mississippi Chancellor Glenn Boyce. “I have spoken directly with the student’s mother to extend the university’s full support and convey that our campus community is thinking of them during this tremendously difficult time.”

Reeves said Mississippi law enforcement has deployed and is assisting the efforts in New Orleans.

“We will continue to pray for the victims and their families. We will continue to pray for our law enforcement and first responders all over America! And we will continue to assist our friends in any way we can,” the governor said.
