JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Due to the dangerously low temperatures expected in the Jackson metro this week, some shelters will be open for those in need.
The city, in partnership with Shower Power, will manage a temporary shelter at Shepard’s Gym at 1355 Hattiesburg St. (near Jim Hill High School). The shelter will be open to the public beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, January 6 and will be open as long as needed. The city will consider opening an additional shelter depending on turnout. Food and cots will be available.
The Salvation Army of Jackson opened its Center of Hope to serve as a Cold Night Shelter for men and women in need. The shelter, located at 110 Presto Lane in Jackson, will operate nightly during inclement weather.
Details:
- Emergency Check-In: 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Note: The shelter is not equipped to serve children.
“Our mission is to meet the immediate needs of our community, especially during extreme weather conditions,” said Major Timothy Delaney, commanding officer of The Salvation Army of Jackson. “We invite anyone needing a warm, safe place to stay to come to our Center of Hope.”
