HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Jeramiah Howard was officially sworn into office on Monday, January 6 as the interim coroner for Hinds County.

Howard was named the interim coroner by the Hinds County Board of Supervisors in December 2024 after longtime Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart announced her retirement.

“The county needed someone that was ready for duty–day one– and that person is Jeramiah Howard,” said Board President Robert Graham. “This office cannot afford to miss a beat.”

Howard previously served as deputy medical examiner investigator/deputy coroner in the coroner’s office. He has also led the volunteer fire department in Pocahontas, Mississippi.

Howard will serve in this role until an election is held later this year.
