JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – A Colorado man was arrested after a high speed chase from Hattiesburg to Laurel, authorities said.

Jones County deputies said Angelino Vialpando, 30, of Colorado Springs, fled from a traffic stop by Hattiesburg police on Monday, January 6.

According to investigators, Vialpando traveled on Interstate 59 from Hattiesburg toward Laurel. Troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) joined the chase along with Jones County deputies, Ellisville police, Laurel police, Jones County deputies and Constable Danny Gibson.

Near the Chantilly Street exit in Laurel, Jones County Sheriff’s Department narcotics agents were able to deploy spike strips, which disabled Vialpando’s tires. His vehicle crashed off of the right side of I-59 near the 98-mile marker northbound.

Deputies said Vialpando was captured after he ran away from his vehicle. No injuries were reported during the chase.

According to investigators, Vialpando is listed as a sex offender on the Colorado Bureau of Investigation Sex Offender Registry. He was transported to the Jones County Adult Detention Center and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. A hold was also placed on Vialpando.
