JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – One family wants answers after their loved one was allegedly beaten by inmates at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility (CMCF).
Family members of Brian Nielsen, alongside the Mississippi Impact Coalition and other advocates, demanded answers from the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) on Friday.
They said the attack on Nielsen took place in December 2024. The family said they were notified about the incident by another inmate and not MDOC.
The Nielsen family and advocates said MDOC should take accountability for not just their family, but for everyone who has a loved one in prison.
“We have no answers. They continue to hide behind the same answer, which is we can’t disclose that information despite me being the son. I have no idea on his status. I don’t know if he’s dead or alive. I have no word from that,” said Brian Jones, Nielsen’s son.

According to MDOC’s website, Nielsen is being held at CMCF after he was sentenced for fleeing from a law enforcement officer, homicide and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He’s expected to be released in 2029.
WJTV 12 News reached out to MDOC about the incident. As of Friday evening, we have not yet received a response from the agency.
