JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Capitol police arrested an 18-year-old after a chase ended in a crash with the suspect and a Hinds County deputy injured.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said Capitol police attempted to stop a vehicle on Raymond Road before 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 12.

Martin said the driver, Raniyah Wells, failed to stop, leading officers on a brief chase. She said Wells crashed into a Hinds County deputy, who was working on a detail with an Entergy crew.

Wells and deputy were transported to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Martin, Wells was charged with felony fleeing, driving under the influence, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and possession of a stolen firearm.
