PEARL, Miss. (WJTV) – A Pearl teacher is being recognized with a national award.

According to the Pearl Public School District, Jennifer Hite, a teacher at Pearl Upper Elementary, was awarded one of the prestigious Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).

Hite is one of only 336 teachers and mentors nationwide who received the award. The announcement was made by President Joe Biden on Monday, January 13.

The PAEMST program is the nation’s highest honor for teachers of mathematics, science, technology, engineering and computer science education.

Hite will receive $10,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
