JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The City of Jackson celebrated the opening of a new disc golf course at Livingston Park.
On Thursday, residents, city leaders, state representatives and local businesses celebrated the opening of the course. As city leaders work to revitalize West Jackson, many in attendance believed that the disc golf course is the steppingstone to many more projects.
“We’ve talked quite extensively on how we can revitalize this area. We’ve talked about how we can bring more attention, more people to visit these amenities that we have in the City of Jackson,” said Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba.
The new course will be a site for tournaments, local teams and leagues. City and state leaders believe it will be a boost in making West Jackson a premier destination.
“What we’re trying to do is make it profitable. We’re trying to make it profitable for all the citizens of Jackson. We want them to have an event space where they can come out and do various things. Disc golf has been around for decades now. We’re bringing it to our community,” said Jackson City Councilman Vernon Hartley, Ward 5.
City leaders said a tournament is in the works for March.
