HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Residents in Utica are calling for change as they deal with lingering issues regarding the Reedtown Water Association.

During a meeting between the community and elected officials on Tuesday, residents said they’ve been dealing with little to no water pressure. The residents said they’ve tried to contact Reedtown Water Association, but communication with the company has been non-existent.

Anthony Denley, who lives in Utica, believes the company is only doing the bare minimum to stay afloat and to meet the minimal requirements.

“The system is old. The pipes need replacing, but they’re too busy chasing leaks. They say they don’t have funds to put the pipes down. There are grants. We talked about the USDA and talked about different grants that they could get,” Denley said. “I don’t understand why we’re not getting the monies available. There’s always something out there.”

Officials with Reedtown Water Association did not attend the meeting.
