VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – The City of Vicksburg is celebrating its bicentennial year with exciting events.

The city kicked off celebrations on Wednesday with a proclamation from Mayor George Flaggs. Residents, state leaders, business leaders and community leaders attended the event.

Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann (R-Miss.) spoke about the future for the River City.

“We celebrate 200 years of history, ups and downs of Vicksburg. But really, we’re talking more about the future, about the river and the new port and all the assets that were being built over here and the rejuvenation of downtown and the package landing on the on the foot of Vicksburg. Again, and bringing hundreds and thousands of people up to see the city. It’s just really doing well right now,” he said.

Vicksburg will host a Music and Culture Festival in April, an Independence Day Weekend Celebration, a Family Fair, and a New Year’s Eve celebration.
