RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) – A woman died after she was shot in the head at a Ridgeland apartment complex, police said.

The shooting occurred at Pinebrook Apartments on Pine Knoll Drive just before 2:00 a.m. on Friday, February 7.

Ridgeland Police Chief Brian Myers said when officers arrived at the scene, they made contact with Dannquarious Deuntea Byest, 23. Officers entered the apartment and found Autumn Diane Brookae Shanks, 21, in the bedroom deceased.

Byest was charged with first-degree murder and will be held with no bond at the Madison County Detention Center.
