WAYNE COUNTY, Miss. (WHLT) – Widespread damage across Wayne County strongly suggests that a tornado hit the area Wednesday night.
In the Beat Four community, officials with Wayne County Emergency Management said two people were injured. At least 10 homes were damaged and that number is expected to grow.
“It’s like looking death right in the face. It’s the most terrifying thing I’ve ever been in, and I’m 65-years-old. I’ve been so terrified in my life. I was literally screaming, and I was trying to close my mouth because insulation was flying in my mouth,” said Janet and Wayne Wilson.
Crews surveyed the area on Thursday. Several power lines and trees remained down across the county. Wayne County deputies urged drivers to use caution on the roadways.
As of noon on Thursday, 190 Dixie Electric customers were without power. Officials said 75 power poles were damaged by the storm.
