Storm causes damage, power outages in Mississippi

PEARL, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) reported damage and power outages from the storm system that moved across the state on February 15-16, 2025.

According to MEMA, no injuries have been reported to the agency. As of 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 16, there were 41,000 power outages reported in the state.

Entergy Mississippi reported 16,032 customers were without power, and Dixie Electric reported more than 6,600 outages.

MEMA officials said initial damage assessments are underway, and seven counties are reporting damage at this time. The counties reporting damage are:

  • Chickasaw
  • Forrest
  • Itawamba
  • Lee
  • Rankin
  • Wayne
  • Walthall

In Rankin County, a tree fell on a home on Twin Oaks Drive in Florence. Two people were inside the home at the time of the incident. They were not injured.

MEMA encourages residents who’ve sustained damage from this severe weather event to do the following:

  • File an insurance claim.
  • Take photos of the damage to the home.
  • Report damage to county/MEMA via the self-report tool.

If citizens have immediate unmet needs, they are encouraged to contact their county emergency management agency.
