JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Capitol police said a man was shot while trying to rob a Jackson business.

Officers responded to the incident at a location on Highway 80 just after 1:15 p.m. on Friday, February 21.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said officers discovered that Jonathan Gibson, 27, fled the scene after he was shot in the abdomen by another person inside the business.

Martin said Gibson has an extensive criminal history and previously attempted to rob the same location. He was located shortly after the incident on Friday and transported to a nearby hospital. Gibson is in stable condition.

According to Martin, two firearms were recovered at the scene. Gibson will be charged with robbery and aggravated assault.
