JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Thalia Mara Hall is one step closer to reopening.

Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba said as of Monday, February 24, the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) approved the installation of a new fire curtain, which was required before the facility could reopen.

The mayor said fire alarm inspections have also been completed. Testing on the building’s hydrostatic and sprinkler system will follow to ensure the sprinklers will activate in case of a fire.

Inspections on the elevators and escalators will be scheduled in the upcoming weeks.

Thalia Mara Hall closed in August 2024 after mold and other safety issues were discovered. There’s no word on when the facility will reopen to the public.
