JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Fallen Hinds County Deputy Martin Shields, Jr., was laid to rest on Sunday, March 2.
Hundreds of law enforcement officers, family, friends and supporters gathered at the Jackson Revival Center to celebrate the life of Shields.
“He willingly laid down his life, so that someone else can live,” said Pastor Jennifer Biard.
Shields was killed in the line of duty on February 23 after responding to a domestic call at a Terry home. Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones spoke highly of Shields’ character.
“He was a protector and friend to the communities he served. His commitment to ensuring safety is evident in every task that he ever took, no matter how great or how small. For Martin, public service wasn’t just a career, it was a calling,” the sheriff said.
After Shields’ funeral, there was a procession leading to his burial.
