Man indicted for mass shooting at Ocean Springs restaurant

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WJTV) – A man has been indicted in connection to a mass shooting that occurred at an Ocean Springs restaurant in 2023.

The Sun Herald reported a Jackson County grand jury indicted Fa’Darius Williams, 24, on one count of murder, four counts of aggravated assault and one count each of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and receiving stolen property.

The shooting occurred at at The Scratch Kitchen in downtown Ocean Springs during a Cinco de Mayo party on May 5, 2023.

Police said Chase Harmon, 19, was fatally shot, and six others were wounded. The restaurant’s owner said there were about 200 people at the restaurant when the shooter ran past employees who were doing security checks at the entrance to the patio.

Williams was later arrested in Mobile, Alabama. He pled not guilty to the charges against him.

A judge later ordered The Scratch Kitchen to close permanently, saying it presented a danger to the city.

According to court testimony, city witnesses described talking to the owner, Brittany Alexander, on multiple occasions about controlling the size of her crowds. Testimony also indicated that guns were present and marijuana was being smoked at the restaurant the night of the shooting.
