Jackson police identify victim found in burned vehicle

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police announced the body that was found in a burned vehicle has been identified.

Detective Tommie Brown, with the Jackson Police Department (JPD), said based on DNA test results, the body was identified as Antwoine Thomas, 34. His identity was confirmed by the Hinds County Coroner’s Office on March 28.

The incident occurred on Stokes Robertson Road on Tuesday, March 4. Brown said officers responded to the scene after receiving a call about a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames.

Once Jackson firefighters extinguished the flames, Thomas’ body was discovered inside the vehicle.

On Thursday, March 13, detectives learned that Thomas had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Brown said the case was upgraded from a death pending to a homicide.
