YAZOO CITY, Miss. (WJTV) – One person was killed and another was injured after a suspect opened fire on a group of adults playing basketball in Yazoo City, authorities said.

The shooting occurred in the 300 block of Chapman Street just before 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28.

One victim was transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle with non-life threatening injuries. Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers said Dontavious Weekly, 29, of Yazoo City, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Yazoo City Police Chief Terry Gann said a suspect has been identified, but his name is not being released at this time. The search is ongoing for the suspect.
