JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A major housing redevelopment project is underway in Jackson’s historic Farish Street neighborhood.
Gulf Coast Housing will be the developers for the project located on Farish and Monument Street. They said construction started in January 2025 and will cost nearly $30 million.
Sixty-one buildings will be rehabilitated and will create 67 affordable homes.
“We have taken off the the historic siting of these houses. We’re preserving everything that is is able to be preserved. They will be restored and put back after adding insulation and house wrap. You can also see that we’re adding structural support and reinforcement to maintain the structural integrity of these homes,” explained Mary Elizabeth Evans, vice president of Gulf Coast Housing Partnership.
Evans said the project will be completed in phases. The first phase is expected to be complete by the end of 2025.
