ADAMS COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Adams County deputies announced a man has been arrested and will be charged in connection to a recent homicide.

The incident occurred at a location on Hillcrest Drive in Natchez on Saturday, April 13. Deputies aid they found the victim, William Jefferson Ray, at the scene. The coroner said a gunshot wound was found on the victim.

On April 16, investigators assisted the Oauchita Parish Sheriff’s Office with a search warrant at a residence in West Monroe, Louisiana. They said Devin Wheeler was arrested for felon in possession of a firearm for an incident that took place in Catahoula Parish on April 15. During the search of the home, deputies said they located a loaded 9 mm pistol that was seized. It will be sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for analysis.

Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said Devin Wheeler is the brother of Adam Cade Wheeler, who was listed as a person of interest earlier this week. The sheriff said Adam voluntarily came in for questioning and was released with no charges being filed.

On April 17, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office obtained arrest warrants for Devin Wheeler for first-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. Patten said his investigators are going to Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office and serving the arrest warrants. They will wait for his extradition.
