One arrested, one wanted in Gulfport teen’s shooting death

GULFPORT, Miss. (WJTV) – Gulfport police arrested a man and are searching for another in connection to the shooting death of a 16-year-old.

The shooting occurred in the area of Holly Circle near Cherry Court around 9:15 p.m. on April 28. When police arrived at the location, they found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. A fourth victim had already been transported to a local hospital by a private vehicle.

Police said one of the victims, Cobi Earnest, 16, was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

During the investigation, officers determined that Paul Martin, Jr., 23, and Kevin James, 53, traveled to the area to confront individuals. The two men allegedly fired shots, striking multiple victims before they fled the scene.

Martin was located a short time later and was arrested. He was charged with first-degree murder, shooting into a dwelling and three counts of aggravated assault. Martin was transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and is being held without bond. Police said he was out on bond for a drive-by shooting that occurred in November 2024.

Police said James is currently wanted on charges of first-degree murder, shooting into a dwelling and three counts of aggravated assault. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
