CANTON, Miss. (WJTV) – A former Canton mayoral candidate wants a recount of the ballots after a close loss in the Democratic primary runoff.
Alderman Tim Taylor, Ward 5, defeated Comelia Walker by just 43 votes on April 22, according to the uncertified results.
Walker filed a petition to examine ballot boxes at City Hall. She plans to review ballots and other election materials.
“She had some questions, and she’s within her statutory right to request it. We encouraged it from all candidates. I’m glad she stepped forward,” said Dr. Chuconna Anderson, Canton City Clerk.
Taylor said he expected a challenge and plans to be present for the review.
“Well, I thought that the election went pleasantly well, but I was expecting this. It’s our statutory right,” he said.
WJTV 12 News reached out to Walker. As of publication, we have not heard back from her.
