SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The Scott County Sheriff’s Office announced a man has been arrested in connection to the death of Shondra May.
Investigators said May, who was 18, was abducted nearly 40 years ago while she was on her way home from work one night. Her car was found abandoned about 100 yards from her front door.
May was found deceased on February 26, 1986.
Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee said the suspect, Rubin Weeks, 63, was arrested in his camper on Movietown Drive in Canton on April 29, 2025.
“Rubin Weeks is the sole person responsible for the kidnapping, rape, and murder of Shondra May,” Lee said.
May’s brother, Tim, explained what it’s been like since the the day she went missing until an arrest was made in the case.
“People say time heals, I don’t necessarily think time heals. The wounds are still there, of course, they’re still open. But you learn to live with it,” he said.
The sheriff said Weeks could have his first hearing in court as early as Thursday morning.
