TUPELO, Miss. (WJTV) – Tupelo police arrested a man in connection to the death of his mother.

Police said officers responded to a welfare concern in the Villages subdivision off of Coley Road on April 29. When officers arrived, they spoke with an individual at the scene and discovered a deceased victim.

The Daily Journal reported the victim was identified as Sherri Lynn Lazore, 62. According to the newspaper, the victim had been attacked with a shovel.

Police said the suspect, Joshua D. Lazore, 30, was detained and transported to the Tupelo Police Department for further questioning. He was later charged with one count of first-degree murder.

During his initial court appearance on April 30, Lazore was ordered to be held without bond. The case will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury.
