BYRAM, Miss. (WJTV) – Byram Middle School students were evacuated due to a gas leak on Friday, May 2.

According to a message sent to parents from the Hinds County School District, all students and staff were relocated to Gary Road Intermediate and Gary Road Elementary.

Officials said authorities and Atmos Energy responded to the scene in order to resolve the issue. They said the leak occurred outside of the cafeteria. No injuries were reported.

Atmos Energy will restore natural gas service to the school after the following takes place: 

• A plumber fixes the customer piping
• City inspections and permits are administered
• Atmos Energy conducts a successful pressure test
