CANTON, Miss. (WJTV) – One person was killed at an apartment complex in the City of Canton, according to the mayor.

Canton Mayor William Truly said the incident occurred at Canton Estates Apartments on Monday, May 12.

According to the Madison County Coroner’s Office, the victim was identified as Quincy Pate, 32. He received fatal gunshot wounds.

This comes nearly a month after a separate fatal shooting occurred at Canton Estates on Tuesday, April 22. Police said Megeil Tyrone Walsh, 22, was found unresponsive in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

Sgt. Jeremy Gooden, with the Canton Police Department, said Renardo Elmore was arrested in connection to the April 22 shooting.

In response to the shootings, the mayor plans to make a request before the Canton Board of Aldermen.

“To invest $1 million into safety and security of the City of Canton. That includes increasing our police officers,” Truly said.
