HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) – A suspect was critically injured during an officer-involved shooting in Hattiesburg.
Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said officers responded to a call for service regarding a suspicious person. Police said the incident occurred in the 1500 block of West Pine Street near Timothy Lane around 9:10 a.m. on May 14.
When officers arrived, they said the suspect displayed a firearm, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and the officers. The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital. No officers were injured during the shooting.
Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating the shooting and will share their findings with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
