Pipe leak causes issues for Pearl River Valley customers

MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Officials said a leaking pipe has caused issues for Pearl River Valley Water Supply District (PRVWSD) customers.

Around 11:00 a.m. on May 14, officials said employees and a crew from Hemphill found a leak in a 90-degree bend in a cast iron pipe underneath a commercial structure. They said the leak had gone unnoticed since at least May 11 for several reasons.

According to the PRVWSD, the pipe was part of a fire suppression system, which are not metered. Additionally, the business had been closed since the leak occurred.

“Although we thought we were looking for a third leak, we believe this could have been the first leak, and the other leaks at Reservoir Pointe/Madison Landing were caused by the loss in pressure from the business’ leak. The valve to the business is now closed, preventing further loss of water or pressure, but all other PRV valves on the Main Harbor Water System are open. Because this is a matter on leasehold land, the leaseholder is responsible for repairs,” the PRVWSD said.

A boil water notice remains in effect for the Main Harbor Water System.
