RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The Southwest Rankin Water Association issued a boil water notice for more than 400 customers. The notice affects customers in the Florence/Cleary area.

According to officials, a contractor for C Spire was performing a directional bore at the intersection of Hickory Ridge Road and Pierce Road on May 20 and bored through an 8″ casing, which broke the 6″ carrier pipe inside. They said the damage emptied the adjacent 150,000 gallon water tower.

Officials said the loss of water was so great it caused a sinkhole at the damage site and washed out the edge of the road on the opposite side.

The repairs were completed by 8:00 p.m., and service was restored by 9:15 p.m.

A boil water notice will be in affect from the intersection of White Road and Brown Hill Road going north and will include: Cleary Road, Mullican Road, McCain Lane, Long Dr., Florence Byram Road, Friendship Rd., Central Ave., Prentiss Street, Lloyd Street, Lynn St., Saint Charles, Longridge, Hidden Ranch, West Neal Rd., Nelson Road, Grantham Farm Rd., Carline Shows Place, Steens Road, Shows Place, Coot Lewis Circle, Pierce Rd., Hickory Ridge Road, Deer Valley Subdivision, Old Mill Subdivision, Dewdrop Lane, Tisdale Lane, Raymond Ave., Hunter Trail, Byrd Dr., Ford Lane, Dear Place, Cypress Lane, Heritage Way, Beggerly Place and Moran Rd.

Officials said the boil water notice will be in effect for seven days and will expire on May 26, 2025 at 11:59 p.m.
