JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – AT&T and Mississippi have entered into contracts to expand AT&T Fiber to more than 5,300 residential and business locations in the state. This is part of a $30.5 million public-private project.

In Hinds and Rankin counties, AT&T will expand fiber broadband to more than 1,500 homes and small businesses.

“This fiber-optic expansion is a testament to what we can achieve when public goals align with private expertise,” said Lure Berry, Hinds County Administrator. “It’s a step toward ensuring that our community is not left behind in the digital era but is instead at the forefront, ready to lead and innovate.”

According to AT&T, state officials used federal funds made available by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to help bring fiber internet to the area. Mississippi will invest nearly $16 million, and AT&T will invest more than $14 million in the project to provide fiber to more than 5,300 homes and small businesses.

“We are proud to work with Governor Reeves, the Legislature, the BEAM team, and local leaders in counties across the state to help close the digital divide,” said Michael Walker, vice-president, AT&T Mississippi. “AT&T’s fiber network is fast and reliable, and we look forward to helping build better futures for the businesses and people of Mississippi.”

The network buildout is expected to be complete by the end of 2026. Residents and businesses can learn more about AT&T Fiber at fiber.att.com and can sign up to be notified when service will be available at their address at att.com/notifyme.
