JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Capitol police said a man is facing charges after a chase ended when a vehicle crashed into a tree.
Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Bobby Rush Boulevard and Shamrock Drive before 9:30 a.m. on July 18.
Martin said the driver led officers on a chase to Belvedere Drive, where he lost control and crashed into a tree in front of a home.
When officers approached the vehicle, Martin said the driver, who was identified as Jarvis Thompson, 27, had a gun in his hand, but he dropped the weapon and attempted to fight the officers. Thompson was detained.
Thompson and a passenger were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment for injuries related to the crash. Thompson has been charged with felony fleeing and driving without a valid license. Martin said additional charges are expected.
