JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Entergy Mississippi officials announced crews will make emergency repairs to damaged underground circuits, which will require a temporary service disruption in some areas of downtown Jackson beginning at 2:00 p.m. on July 24.

According to the company, the affected area will be between Amite and Pascagoula streets to the north and south and between Mill and Lamar streets to the east and west.

Officials said the outage is necessary for workers to access underground equipment, to prevent further damage to the electrical grid and to minimize the duration of the outage. Additional crews have been brought in to assist with the repairs.

While crews were assessing the damage and repairing an underground circuit fault prior to the emergency outage, the company said they discovered additional damage that impacted a second circuit.

“We know being without power is frustrating at any time and we ask customers and workers in the downtown area affected by this outage to be patient as we make these emergency repairs,” said Robbie Kemp, vice president customer service. “By bringing in additional workers, we will be able to rotate crews and work around the clock until repairs are complete.”

Entergy Mississippi officials said power is expected to be restored by 3:00 a.m. on July 25.
