PIKE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – An 18-wheeler driver was killed during a crash on Interstate 55 in Pike County.

Pike County Coroner Rashad Taylor said the crash occurred on I-55 South near Exit 15 before 3:30 a.m. on July 30.

Taylor said the driver, who was identified as Damond K. Julien, 25, of New Orleans, was killed during the crash and another person was airlifted to a hospital. The crash is under investigation by the McComb Police Department.

According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT), both directions of the Park Drive bridge over I-55 have been closed until further notice after the 18-wheeler hit the bridge while traveling on the interstate.

Officials said the bridge will remain closed until officials determine it can be safely reopened. Drivers should seek alternate routes and be on high alert for roadside workers.
