JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson police announced a man was arrested after a standoff for allegedly killing his wife at an apartment complex.
Officers responded to Westwood Apartments in the 3100 block of Robinson Street on July 31.
According to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade, the man shot his wife multiple times at the location before he barricaded himself inside the leasing office. The police chief said the victim, who was identified 24-year-old Maleah Bess, worked at the apartment complex.
Wade said the suspect, 52-year-old Ron Christopher Allen, eventually surrendered to authorities after the standoff.
“I’m very disturbed, very disheartened, because this is another situation that could have been avoided in our community, if this was a domestic-related situation. This was his wife. My understanding she worked here at this location, and he came to this location and took her life,” the police chief stated.
Police said the weapon was recovered and the scene was processed by the Mobile Crime Unit.
