JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The man accused of killing his wife at a Jackson apartment complex, which led to a standoff, was denied bond.
Ron Christopher Allen, 52, made his initial appearance in court on Friday, August 1, one day after the fatal shooting.
Officers responded to Westwood Apartments in the 3100 block of Robinson Street on July 31.
According to Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade, Allen shot his wife multiple times at the location before he barricaded himself inside the leasing office. The police chief said the victim, who was identified 24-year-old Maleah Bess, worked at the apartment complex.
Witnesses said they spotted Allen at the leasing office, moments before he the shooting. During the court hearing, it was revealed that witnesses called Bess’ phone during the incident. They said Allen answered and confirmed her death.
Wade said Allen eventually surrendered to authorities after the standoff. Police said he was covered in his wife’s blood. They said the weapon was recovered and the scene was processed by the Mobile Crime Unit.

A resident of the apartment complex said Bess was a kindhearted person.
“She was sweet, understanding. I mean, she had a heart of gold, basically. If you didn’t have it, she understood. She gave grace. She understood. Well, I mean, what happened to her. It was terrible. I mean, we wasn’t expecting it. You know, we residents out here. So, we most definitely wasn’t expecting. I just hate it,” the resident stated.
Allen’s next court date has not been set.
