JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – An apartment complex in Jackson that was declared a public nuisance has a new owner.

According to Jackson City Councilman Vernon Hartley, Ward 5, Chapel Ridge Holdings LLC, which is located in Wyoming, acquired Chapel Ridge Apartments in South Jackson. The name of the apartment complex was changed to New Chapel Ridge.

We will have a full press release soon, and we’re open to having a community meeting. We want to create a community advisory board to find out what the current tenants want and need.

Interim City Attorney Drew Martin said they’re working to secure the property, keep the residents who are still there, make improvements and get more residents in place.

In June 2025, the apartment complex was declared a public nuisance. This occurred after mountains of trash piled up at the apartment complex when officials said the owners stopped paying their trash bill.

The previous owner filed for bankruptcy. At that time, the City of Jackson provided the residents of Chapel Ridge with a dumpster to help with the trash problem. Volunteers also helped residents with the cleanup.

In response to the ongoing concerns about some landlords failing to maintain basic utilities and standards in apartment complexes, Jackson Mayor John Horhn announced a new Housing Task Force that will hold landlords accountable for neglect.
