FLORA, Miss. (WJTV) – Flora police are investigating after a pedestrian was hit and killed.

The incident occurred in the area of Kearney Park Road and Sheppard Street just before 9:45 p.m. on August 6.

Flora Police Chief Richard Johnson said the driver of the vehicle called emergency services, remained on the scene and was questioned. He said officers released the driver after they determined the collision was accidental.

According to the Madison County Coroner’s Office, the victim was identified as Thomasina Donerson, 38. She was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) where she died a short time later from the injuries sustained in the accident.

Donerson’s family said they received the incident report from Flora police on August 11.

“The police report should have been done within the next day. We should not have had to wait until today, which is Monday to get a police report. If the officer that was on duty was there at the scene, he should have given his statement the same night,” said Taniya Lipsey, the daughter of Donerson.

The family claimed they were never contacted by police about Donerson’s death. In a Facebook post, Lipsey called for justice. She claims she was told it would take six to eight weeks for a toxicology report to be available.

“Even if my mother was under the influence of any drugs or any type of alcohol, it does not give the driver the right to not go around her. It is streetlights all throughout the town of Flora, even on Kearney Park Road. So, I do not understand how and why you did not see her if you are driving. Your vehicle has lights, so I don’t understand how you didn’t see her,” said Lipsey.

No charges are pending at this time. Anyone with information about the incident or witnesses can contact the Flora Police Department.
