JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A project to redevelop Metrocenter Mall in Jackson has been proposed to the City Council. This project is expected to cost cost millions of dollars.
“We wouldn’t be here if we couldn’t be here. We are definitely not making any promises. We are committed to doing the work and that’s as simple as that,” said Chris Jones, with Emerging Capital.
Although much of what is in the works for the mall is under wraps, Jones and city leaders are positive that the project will play a vital role in revitalizing the capital city.
“Things we do in the Metrocenter will impact the surrounding areas. It’s going to impact South Jackson, West Jackson. And the bottom line, it’s going to help lift our city up. And so, we are excited. We’re cautiously optimistic about everything,” said Jackson City Councilman Vernon Hartley, Ward 5.
The councilman said communication between the city and developers has been transparent.
“What I’ve seen him do in the last few months for us getting outside investors from Dubai, the U.K. and Hong Kong, he has gotten collaboration of investors, insurance company engineers. It’s just everyone involved. This will be a new vision for that Metrocenter,” Hartley said.
Emerging Capital officials said they don’t want to reveal too much to the public before they begin construction and have more to show once the project has been finalized.
